We can all use a little help, encouragement, and inspiration sometimes. Whatever you believe about the healing properties of gemstones, it’s undeniable: Jewelry empowers us. That’s the motivation behind our Gemstone Feature series. By sharing the stories of some of the gemstones gracing our latest Bloom pieces, we celebrate the countless ways jewelry brings positive energy to our lives.
Bloom’s featured October gemstones, Watermelon Tourmaline and Moss Agate, have names inspired by their striking appearances. Watermelon Tourmaline has a delicious pink core and green outer ring that echo the coloring of its namesake fruit. Moss Agate features ethereal, moss-like green filaments running through various hues of chalcedony (a type of quartz).
We were inspired to work with these semi-precious stones for one simple, obvious reason: They are stunning. We love how each stone is unique, varying in coloration, texture, and inclusions. In addition, Tourmaline is an October birthstone, so the time is absolutely right to celebrate it.
All that said, when we researched the supposed meaning and healing properties of Watermelon Tourmaline and Moss Agate, we were intrigued. As it turns out, these beautiful gemstones are thought to share healing properties that feel custom-fit for the current state of our world. Both are believed to help clear negative energy, bring balance and harmony, and promote positive action and healing. No matter who you are, where you live, or what your current circumstances look like — couldn’t we all use a little more of that right about now?
Watermelon Tourmaline
What are the healing properties of Watermelon Tourmaline?
Watermelon Tourmaline healing properties are focused on calming emotions and anxiety, clearing negative energy, increasing self-confidence, finding balance and harmony, and inspiring compassion, creativity, practicality, and positivity.
Watermelon Tourmaline is considered a heart stone that resonates with the Heart Chakra (and recommended for wearing over the heart, as a necklace). Indeed, the purported healing properties of Watermelon Tourmaline have everything to do with unblocking the heart, releasing stress, tension, insecurity, and depression while tapping into strengths, self-confidence, and healing.
By simultaneously giving you insight to yourself and inspiring positive, creative action, the healing properties of Watermelon Tourmaline are also believed to bring harmony and balance to your yin (receptive) and yang (active) energies.
What is the meaning of Watermelon Tourmaline?
For all the reasons outlined above, the meaning of Watermelon Tourmaline is often considered to be balance, positivity, and harmony. It’s also said to represent reconciliation, bringing healing, compassion, and calm that helps to build or mend our relationships with others and the wider world.
The meaning of Watermelon Tourmaline is known by some as a “gateway to the self.” It is thought to allow you to understand the meaning of events in your life so that you can find purpose, meaning, and a path forward.
Moss Agate
What are the healing properties of Moss Agate?
The supposed healing properties of Moss Agate are rooted in the concept of the healing power of nature. The gemstone’s distinctive appearance brings to mind rich vegetation, deep forest, and verdant fields. So the idea is that focusing on Moss Agate can help you connect with nature, turning your attention from the chaos of the man-made world to the more tranquil natural environment underpinning it.
With this in mind, the healing properties of Moss Agate are believed to include helping wearers to create harmony and balance in their lives. Just as with Watermelon Tourmaline, Moss Agate is thought to be a cleansing stone that helps you get rid of negative energy, transforming it into positive action. It is also thought to help in the balancing of yin and yang energies. In the concept of yin and yang, seemingly opposing forces aren’t fighting each other, but are rather working together in harmony.
What is the meaning of Moss Agate?
The meaning of Moss Agate is most often thought to be related to abundance, prosperity, and fertility. That’s why Moss Agate has long been regarded as a lucky gemstone for gardeners and farmers. It’s said that 18th-century British farmers would plant it for a successful harvest, and that in medieval times, it was hung from trees for the same purpose.
In this same vein, the meaning of Moss Agate is also thought to be a stone of wealth. After all, wealth is ultimately the ability to attract abundance, whether that comes in the form of new business or positive financial outcomes.
Yet another meaning of Moss Agate is thought to be the concept of new beginnings. As a stone of growth, Moss Agate may be able to help people move on from trauma and troubled times, finding a path forward that turns hard life lessons into strengths.
As for me, after learning all this, I may need to take our Watermelon Tourmaline & Moss Agate Strung Rolo Necklace out for a test drive today. A quiet, reflective walk in the woods sounds great to me (especially if I leave the iPhone behind). Well, it certainly can’t hurt. ☺
