When we talk about the women in our lives that we love working with and being surrounded by, we also mean our customers. They are simply the best. So we are super excited about this month’s featured customer/Denver business owner. She hits all our heartstrings: one of our favorite Bloom customers, female business owner & entrepreneur, and creates a product we love to share with our families (read meaningful gifts for the little ones in your life that you will love, too!). Seriously, does it get any better? We are so honored to introduce to you our dear friend and the founder of Curly Cues Club, (CurlyCluesClub.com) Jane Koerbel.
- How long have you been a Bloom customer? Do you have a favorite Bloom piece?
- I can’t remember when I bought my first Bloom piece. I think it was at the Christmas show in 2011. I just know I fell in love with the style and, of course, with Lindsay! My favorite piece? – Not possible! I truly love them all! I am a big hoop earring and bangle fan. Anything new in that department is irresistible. I have also introduced Bloom to my daughters and daughters in law. They love it too!
- What are you currently working on? What is your background?
- I am currently working on building a house and building a company called Curly Cues Club. I have worked with kids and families for over 30 years as a Speech- Language Pathologist, but I’ve done many other things in the spaces of moving to Europe and Canada and raising 3 wonderful children.
- How did you come up with the idea for Curly Clues Club?
- The truth is I was looking for something bigger and more widespread in terms of using my experiences with families and kids. Once I got through some difficult personal challenges and the weight was lifted, the idea came to me sitting on my sofa in the mountains! My oldest daughter, Libby, really encouraged me to go for it. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I like challenges.
- What is Curly Clues Club?
- Curly Clues Club designs and curates family activity boxes for children ages 3- 8 years of age, focused on a social/emotional developmental theme. Each box has a children’s book and several activities to do together to connect, learn and grow with your children.
- How long have you been in business?
- One year
- What challenges have you faced as an entrepreneur?
- Finding the target market audience and marketing the product to generate sales.
- Where do you see the company going?
- My focus has shifted from selling online to parents/grandparents to also working with companies and foundations to get these boxes into the hands of children suffering from cancer or other long term illnesses in hospitals and home.
- What has surprised you the most since you started your own business?
- How time consuming it is, but how rewarding it feels to do this.
- What do you love most about what you are doing?
- I love the challenge and the learning. I’m learning a lot about myself and also business. I love the creative side of designing a box and seeing children and parents happy using it.
- What advice would you give to others just getting their business off the ground?
- I think I would tell them to “go for it”, because you never know where life will lead you. Seek help and advice and trust in yourself. Be willing to make mistakes as this is how we learn. Ok, now I’m sounding like a mom!
