Unpredictable weather conditions, it’s time to layer up. Why not layer your necklaces and bracelets, too? By bringing together different pieces in different combinations, layering necklaces and bracelets opens up a range of exciting possibilities for your jewelry collection.
The layering jewelry trend also happens to be a fantastic fit for Bloom’s signature styles! In this post, we’ll show you how to layer some of the Bloom favorites you may already have in your collection with some of the new pieces from our fall-inspired Golden Layers Collection.
Here in Denver, we’ve already had our first snow of the season. We’re walking the line between fall and winter, but many of those gorgeous golden-yellow leaves are still stubbornly holding on. As winter approaches, gold is the color that doesn’t immediately give up. In celebration of fall’s “Golden Layers,” here are some tips for creating a layered look that helps you stay gold — whatever weather awaits in the coming days.
How to Layer Necklaces and Stack Bracelets
The trick to layering necklaces and bracelets? Achieving a balanced mix of chain lengths, weights, metals, designs, textures, and colors — and following a few simple guidelines:
- Start with your outfit. After all, the neckline, color, style, and sleeve lengths of the outfit you wear will factor into the overall composition of your layered necklace look or bracelet stack.
- Make sure necklaces have some breathing room. This avoids tangles while giving each of your layered necklaces the chance to shine and be seen. A good general rule is to make sure each chain’s length is at least ¾ inch longer or shorter than its pals. Start with a choker and work your way down. Most of Bloom’s signature necklaces come with extender chain in the back so you can adjust accordingly at varying lengths.
- Wear what you love, but get creative. For either necklaces and bracelets, try adding pendants or charms, pairing different color and gemstone combinations, and mixing up weights and styles. While the Golden Layers Collection is all gold, combining different metals can work wonderfully well. As you’ve likely noticed, two-tone jewelry is very prevalent in Bloom’s signature styles!
- Strive for balance. To get your layered look right, experimentation is your BFF. That said, for necklaces, a tried-and-true approach is to keep the longest necklace simple, the middle one(s) more decorative (i.e., pendants like circles, coins, or gemstones), and the top one(s) more delicate and/or personal. The ultimate goal is a combination that looks harmonious, not chaotic. When it comes to stacking bracelets, trust your gut instinct. For example, if one bracelet looks too chunky or thin for the others to feel at home, that one shouldn’t make the stack.
- Identify a few pieces that make great starting points. For example, is there a choker you love that goes with just about everything? A simple bangle or bracelet that invariably makes you smile? Start there and see where it takes you. One foolproof strategy I love for a great bracelet stack: Begin with one of Bloom’s signature Triple Wrap Bracelets, which are premade stacks on their own.
- Don’t overdo it. Depending on the pieces you’re working with, you can generally layer up to five without it seeming like overkill.
Whether you’re layering necklaces or stacking bracelets, it’s fundamentally about striving for balance and the right amount of breathing room. But the possibilities are virtually endless, and who doesn’t love an excuse to spend time playing with and admiring all of your favorite pieces of jewelry?
